Sober Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 25, 2026

Overview

Sober is a personal sobriety tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch. The core experience is free. An optional Bloom+ subscription unlocks premium features. Your privacy is fundamental to how this app is built.

Data Collection

Sober does not collect, transmit, or share any of your personal data.

Purchases & Subscriptions

Sober offers an optional Bloom+ subscription (and lifetime purchase) that unlocks premium features: full health benefit timeline with sources, journaling with daily prompts, all achievements, money and calories saved statistics, and additional bonsai styles and garden decorations.

All payments are processed exclusively by Apple through StoreKit. Sober never receives, stores, or has access to your payment information — including credit card details, billing address, or Apple ID credentials.

To determine whether you have an active Bloom+ subscription or lifetime unlock, the app uses RevenueCat's SDK to verify receipt status. This check communicates with RevenueCat's servers solely for the purpose of confirming purchase status. RevenueCat does not receive any personal or health information — only anonymized purchase tokens.

Your purchase history and subscription management (upgrade, downgrade, cancel, or request a refund) are handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID account. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your device.

Following a free trial or paid subscription period, if you cancel, your access to Bloom+ features ends at the close of the current billing period. No data is lost — your sobriety data and preferences remain on your device, and the free tier continues to work as before.

Local Storage

Sober stores all data locally on your device using SwiftData. This includes:

This data is stored in an App Group container (group.com.jackwallner.sober) that is shared between the iOS app, widgets, and Apple Watch companion. This data never leaves your device.

Your preferences (goals, display settings, appearance) are stored locally in UserDefaults on your device.

Health Data

Sober does not read from or write to Apple HealthKit. All health-related information (daily check-ins, mood, health benefit tracking) is entered directly by you and stored locally. Sober does not access or process any HealthKit data types.

Data Export

Sober does not currently offer a data export feature. All data remains on your device within the app's local SwiftData store.

Data Retention & Deletion

All data remains on your device until you delete the app. Deleting Sober removes all locally stored data, including sobriety history, journal entries, and settings. No data persists on any external server because no data is ever transmitted externally.

To delete your data, uninstall the app from your device. No additional request is needed since no data exists outside your device.

Children's Privacy

Sober is not directed at children under the age of 13. The app does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
